How Do We Manage Our Solid Waste in our cities and urban areas in Kenya.
The purpose of National solid Waste management strategy is to guide sustainable solid Waste management in Kenya to ensure a healthy ,safe and secure environment for all. The strategy is a deliberate and visionary commitment for the country in the management of solid Waste.
The guiding principle of this strategy is to address the following;
▪︎ The current situation (Where we are now)
▪︎ The preferred state (Where do we want to go) and
▪︎ Implementation of the strategy (How do we get there)
1. Waste Segregation.
Most of the waste is generated at households, market places, cities ,towns ,institutions, and industrial zones.
▪︎ Very few households segregate waste at the household level
▪︎There is minimal waste segregation at source within the CBD areas ,industries, and institutions in most towns and cities
▪︎ There is considerable segregation of biomedical waste
