Narcissists are notoriously self-centered individuals. This self-centeredness gives them the illusion of importance and significance in their lives. Their personality often manifests in behaviors that flaunt their intelligence, attractiveness, and perceived superiority. They might engage in humor at others’ expense, make critical comments, or showcase a tendency to correct others. While some of their statements may be factually based, the underlying motive is often manipulative.

In contrast, emotionally healthy individuals possess a strong desire to understand and listen to others. They prioritize helping others over being right, and they value healthy relationships built on empathy and respect. Unfortunately, narcissists are the antithesis of this emotional health.

At some point, every narcissist faces the reality that they have lost or cannot afford to lose someone important. This brings about a craving for what or who they’ve lost. Often, this individual is not just a source of narcissistic supply; they are also the only one privy to the narcissist’s innermost thoughts and desires. The loss of such a person can make it seem impossible for the narcissist to find a suitable replacement.
